art is suffering

they say to make art
first you must starve,
you need to wait until the words pour out of you in a fiery horrid blaze
they need to drain you of all emotion
leaving your chalice empty after you pour its contents on the page
they need to reflect the pain you feel inside
then they need to make you relive it
see it over and over
and make others who read it feel the same
maybe that's true
but maybe, just maybe
these words can heal
they can be the outlet for pain
a place to keep all of the bad so you can feel good
maybe the happier poems are accompanied by depressed poets
maybe the depressed horrible poems are where the true happiness is from.

mississippi liv'n

my lord it's lazy in the south, it's early april and already its hot as a vermont summer. claire and i have stopped at a hare krishna farm for a little while. we are learning about herbs, gardening, and krishna consciousness. everyone in this town is a vegetarian and spiritually conscious. i have not met an unkind person yet. our dog is free our space is our own, as well as our day. there is an incredible amount to learn here, i can't wait.

You can be happy

hopeful and cheery
seems spiteful and dreary
when met with the query
'well, what will you do?'
the future thats promised
to a young starving artist
is among all the blindest
conspirator fools

my life is together
i am living, am i not?
my battles won in moments
by having not fought
yes, i do as i like
and no, i may not take your word
for many verbal lashings
come into the world
i will always be chastised
i will always be wrong
if i can not please you
then i wont reach anyone
i risk sounding selfish
and yet i don't care
if i cant make you happy
i know i can get there

you can be happy
simply try
you can by happy
with life passing by
you can be happy
just don't give up
because when you are happy
you feel you're on top

no worries

fill your hearts
fill your mugs
the time will come
for swill and hugs
beasts of men
and the timid alike
will gather together
in the course of the night
they will be in peace
hearty song and dance
their celebration
their only stance
no perils of war
politics of others
no fighting for
some unknown brothers
just party, be merry
no worries, to carry

our time in Xanth (florida)

I had always imagined this place to be somewhat magical, and in many respects it has been. For four months we have been traversing through this warm state. we have experienced many miracles in unforeseen places. we have been befriended, betrayed, helped and hurt, all of which has left us stronger and more enlightened than ever before. i will always remember this place, all of the misadventures of Edgewater, the kindness found in Titusville, the insane laws of Sarasota, the great massing in Ocala, the humble caring of Port Saint Lucie, the angry (yet forgiving) police of Stuart, and the long tedious route one. though i will not miss florida, i will still look back on it fondly, and probably never come back to this ant ridden state ever again. currently we are spending our last few days here, then its off to a new farm.

friends

note the nodes
they fly in rows
accept my eyes
exempt my nose
the tales that show
they tell me what to know
...and where to go...
lost in constant flow...

time does not exist
for those who can not change
who am i to say normal
when i am feeling so damn strange

the key to life
a happy knife
let go right?
and do not fight

the feelings go by
pass right in time
sour expressions fade
as you suck your lime and smile
lost for an eternity
but found in just a while
then stuck in line and file

hello my friend
where have you come from?
you speak in strange words
unfamiliar silver tongue
from the depths you come
and soon
you will go on back home

i hope you will be my friend
i hope you will be my friend
i hope we can be friends...

maybe

fall the leaves plopping into the water with a splash too heavy for them
the sands of time and all i know fading in front of me and away
too many people talking at the same time makes me hear nothing
trying my best does nothing when they don't care what they say anyway
so saturated my thoughts have become lately
longing to be wrung out and have the liquid inside harvested
i know these people thirst, why do they not drink?
i know these people thirst, so dammit why do they not drink?
maybe i'm just in over my head
maybe i'm just overplaying these peoples problems
maybe i'm supposed to just observe
maybe i'm supposed to let them complain
maybe it's time to log out from these problems
maybe it's time for me to take care of me
maybe... is all i have

theres no place like Xanth

It has been a while since my last post. I assure you it is through an excess of happenings as opposed to a lack. I have lived and worked at two farms, met amazing people and now have a beautiful puppy. For the past couple months I have been floating around florida. It's warm here but the local people are strange, the bugs are feirce and the weather is stranger than Vermont's. I can't wait for the end of winter. As far as living on the road I have learned that it is as easy as you make it. As long as you have the right mind set it is far better, in my opinion, than living the "American dream". You don't need a car, you don't need a cell phone, you don't need a house. You need to be comfortable with yourself. if those things help, then sure go for it! Just keep in mind that they are a luxury, they are not necessity and you are in good fortune to have them. I plan to be in florida for too long, once I break out of florida I will be a happy happy camper.

questions for peace

In light of the ensuing chaos, positive thought may be the only weapon for peace. War for peace does not make sense, but a question may. Ask with me each day "What does peace mean to me?"

southern comfort

So far I am seeing some major differences between the north and the south. First off NASCAR is whey bigger here, secondly the word y'all, third the southern hospitality. Beyond that spicy food, slow drawls and most importantly it's warm. Today we had the good fortune to go swimming, and thank god for that! We have been just hanging around North Carolina for the time being soon we will be going to a beach house. It will be nice to have some ocean time. For the duration so far Claire and I have either been looking at her old stomping grounds and hanging with her family. Her family seems to be filled with spunky and exciting folk with a lot of spirit. They all have had something fun and entertaining to provide me with. At times I have felt overwhelmed (as I am not used to such hospitality in the north) but all in all I have received a very warm welcome.
